She woke up to her mobile alarm. It was 6.30 in the morning. Glancing on the other side of her bed...a Smile inadvertently played on her lips, he always resembled a kid while sleeping. She shook him out of his deep slumber, caressing his face "Wake up da, it's morning" . "Ummmm" He replied...catching her hand and pulling her back, inviting her to sleep more. She was used to this routine. Sometimes routines give you a sense of peace , God's way of telling you things are fine. She somehow freed her hand from his clasp and got off the bed, sitting on the edge she tied a bun of her hair.
She went to the door took the milk packet and the newspaper. Made a Cup of tea for herself and went back to the room to sit by the window looking at the sunrise and reading the newspaper. She loved her "Me" time.It gave her some time to think about her life and it's mundane existence. She looked at her hubby...who was still sleeping. She found herself lucky to finally have found her mate. It's been a year and a half ,she thought to herself...time flies when you like the company of the person you are with..."Theory of relativity" her mind answered. She acknowledged it with a smile.
It was a long wait...worthwhile too. When she first meet him, she never knew he would be the one...the apprehensions, the runaway feeling were all there. But they soon eased away as soon as they started talking, sharing their lives and views. And before long, they knew this was the right thing to do for both of them. The first six months were bliss in true sense, almost like dating and finding more about each other, molding according to the new environment.
She turned back to her newspaper, still churning out thoughts.
Her subconscious mind picked up the noise in the kitchen, Ma was up. Preparing tea for herself and Dad because Dad liked it made by Ma. She went thru the days work in her mind, what to cook, office schedule, visiting her home before returning and then she remembered she has to check with the Doctor too...She was feeling a little uneasy since 3 -4 days..an upset stomach and nauseous.Result of the roadside Panipuri she couldn't resist...she smiled, remembering the sweet - tangy taste , simply awesome.
She picked up her cup, always liked her tea to be warm rather than hot..so that she could enjoy the taste.Finished it looking out of the window. When she got up, He was already into the bathroom. She entered the kitchen, "Good Morning, Ma"...she started preparing tea. Ma smiled and nodded..taking her cups out to the drawing room...Dad was already ready for his morning walk. Just as she poured the tea into the cup, he entered the kitchen...giving her a peck on the cheek and picking up his cup.
The peck on the cheek was a random event, which occurred on random days and depended on lot of factors like the timing, people present in the kitchen, the mood of the hubby, the previous night, etc. But whenever it happened, she felt loved. "So"she said "yesterday was hectic? you came quite late at night." "Yeah" he replied " too much of work load, have to finish things by weekend" . " We hardly get time together nowadays" she complained. "I know, I miss that too" He always knew what to say to calm her down.
"Let's go out for few days, once you are done" She cheered up. He smiled " You, me, Ma, Dad, Mom and Papa, like last time?" she continued. He made a face " ya, how ab't asking the neighbours too." She playfully hit him with the kitchen cloth " We need to take care of them too" "Who? the neighbours?" now she was laughing. "Shut Up and drink your tea it's getting cold"
"hey, btw...Rohan called yesterday, his kiddo's naming ceremony is there this sunday afternoon...he was insisting that we come." he continued.
Now, was her turn to make a face. " We really have to go?" He nodded," He would feel bad if we didn't". She reluctantly said yes. Mentally planning what to wear , the shoes and the bag to match along."They'll all ask about our good news"she explained her reason for not willing to attend. " Tell them we are practicing daily"he smirked. She arched her eyebrows" Wouldn't that be an exaggeration?" He raised his hand in form of blessing and said" Didn't they make you Vow - Thou Shall not reveal any truth of your Happy Married Life to others, when we got married" he winked. " Ya ya" she smiled.
Mom entered the kitchen asking" What time were you back yesterday?" . " Around 11.30 - 12.00" he replied. "No Ma, it was past 12.30" she chimed in. He gave her the we'll settle the score later look. She gave him her mischievous smile, but saved him by asking Ma the kitchen menu. As they both got busy in food preparation, he got ready for his office. " Ma I won't be returning in the afternoon, wuld be meeting Mom if possible , so would be taking my tiffin along. So no rice for me in the afternoon" She didn't mention the Doctor because then she would have to confess about the panipuri too. "Okay. Call me if there's a change in plan" said Ma.
By the time she came back from her bath the hubby had already left. She got dressed and left. The day went quite smoothly. She loved her work, so even if it was hectic she used to realise it only when it got over by the end of the day. She reached her Mom's place in the afternoon. There was no place like Home sweet home and ofcourse Mom's hug. They had their catching up on each other's lives and the usual maid problem cribbing. Dad came back by the time she was leaving, so they had their cup of tea together. Some things do not change, especially doting parents.
She skipped telling about her doctor's visit to Mom too. She wanted to talk to him first regarding it..though there wasn't anything to worry about or maybe they should worry she thought. The evening was as chaotic as always at office. Initially when they got married, he used always call up to check if she left on time or was running late..sometimes suprising her by coming to pick her up...but as routine sets in, the phone calls have reduced to almost none. Tho she doesn't mind because she was used to a single life for a longtime, but that small gesture made her feel special.
By the time she reached home, Ma had already cooked the rice. She helped with the Chapati and they sat down to dinner watching TV. She usually ate with Ma and Dad coz He was invariably late. She came back to her room...today ,she was planning to wait for him, instead of going to sleep. So picking up the latest Sidney Sheldon...she continued from where she left. He came quite late and found her sleeping with the book in her hand. He tried disengaging the book, but ended up waking her up. "Sleep, Sleep" he said." Na, wanted to talk to you. Go get fresh I'll heat up the food." she replied half asleep. " I have already placed it in the oven before coming, go sit on the table I'll come"
She served him his portion, and waited for him. "Hmmm...say...what's so urgent." She looked at him...checking if it's was the right time.He looked tired, maybe in the morning..but then they hardly got time together nowadays. He waved his hand over her eyes"hey?" She broke from her reverie..."Eat your food...I'll tell you." He started eating...looking at her expectedly. " Well, I had been to the Doctor today, had an upset stomach because of the panipuri I had last week..or so I thought"...He was giving her the caught you redhanded look and she smiled.
"Well Mister ..would you be angry if I gave you some additional responsibility?" "Huh?" was all he could manage. " It's a huge one no doubt..but u'll do fine I feel...because you are managing things quite well right now." He was totally not able to comprehend what she was talking. Was some relative coming over and all? Finally she said " The doctor said, that I maybe...er...that I am expecting some good news 9 months from now.And you have been accused of being the partner in the crime" she disclosed.
It took some time for him to digest the fact and the food. All he could manage was "Wow"..."So soon...I didn't expect..well..great news ya...the best news of the day" and finally he was Smiling ,a big huge smile. The Smile she fell in love with quite sometime ago." I haven't told anyone yet"she said. They started planning their kid's life and maybe they didn't sleep that night or they did dreaming of the future that looked beautiful, scary and yet fascinating. The day ended with Sweet Dreams awaiting for both of them !!
